While many of the smartphone manufacturers have been dropping bigger and bigger phones, Apple may be looking to go against the flow and release a smaller version of the iPhone soon. According to reports, the California-based tech company has been working on creating a 4-inch iPhone, which tech insiders have called the iPhone 6C or the iPhone 5Se. It is rumored to be released this year. If a recent patent approval is any indication, the iPhone 6C may already have a new hi-resolution camera which iPhone fans will surely go crazy for.
In a report by Forbes, exciting changes to the iPhone's cameras may be on the horizon as Apple has "been granted a patent for an imaging technology, which could significantly reduce the size of digital camera modules, without any loss in quality." According to the Forbes, Apple was granted 53 patents in the last month, which includes No. 9,244,253, "Small Form Factor High Resolution Camera". The new camera "squeezes a larger sensor surface area into a smaller space while simultaneously simplifying the lenses which go with it" the report says.
This is certainly a very intriguing patent approval as it may signal a move by Apple to offer smaller iPhone options to its users. While the latest versions of the iPhone, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, offer large 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays respectively, many people are complaining that high-end smartphones have become big and bulky. This may be a market that Apple is trying to target next.
While many smartphone users are opting for the bigger phones currently available, offering a smaller iPhone jam-packed with features can certainly be a major game changer. A hi-resolution camera is certainly a step in the right direction for Apple and who knows what other innovative and exciting features is in store for the rumored 4-inch iPhone 6C. While no official announcement has been made by Apple yet regarding it, the company is expected to announce the smaller iPhone release this coming March.
