OKLAHOMA CITY – Police are looking for two people who stole a cell phone out of the hands of its owner outside an auto repair business on the city's northwest side Monday.
"I was getting my oil changed, sitting on the bench waiting for my truck and two teenagers come up and ask me to borrow my phone, and I said, 'No, use the one inside, ask them for it,'" said customer Gio Mayorga
Surveillance camera footage from the business, released by Oklahoma City Police, shows a black male and female, possibly in their teens, walk past Mayorga and enter the business.
The two suspects briefly chat inside the business before going back outside.
"I had just got off the phone with my boss," said Mayorga, who recently moved to Oklahoma City from Los Angeles. "Just really quick, within a blink of an eye, I turned to look at them and that girl had her eyes on the phone and then before you know it she just went for it."
Mayorga's iPhone 7 Plus, snatched right out of his hands. The video shows the two running north.
According to police reports, surveillance video from the Taco Bell showed a Ford Focus with tinted windows was waiting. The two got inside the car and drove off eastbound on W. Hefner Road.
"When they go back out, unfortunately the victim is still sitting there. So they walk by him, grab the cell phone and take off running," said Oklahoma City Police Spokeswoman Megan Morgan.
"They appear very young. So we're just asking the public for any information they may have on who these two are."
A crime of opportunity that has Mayorga without a much-needed lifeline for his newly found job.
"I need my phone for everything right now. So, it makes this kind of tough," Mayorga said.
"I never thought she would try to take it."
Police ask if you have any information to contact the department or report it to Crime Stoppers.
