Nokia 7 and Gionee M7 go head-to-head, with both offering distinctively different advantages to the users. Read on to find out more…

First, have you heard of the term 'bothie'? That's the terminology coined by Nokia, and with Nokia 7 you can capture using both the primary camera and secondary camera, and make it into a single image. That way you can capture yourself and what is in front of you.

Very interesting feature, to combine both cameras functionalities into a single output.

Here's the rest of Nokia 7 as per below:

  • 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio or ~424 ppi density
  • IP54 certified - dust and splash resistant
  • Front/back glass & aluminum frame
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset, Octa-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 508 graphics and 6GB RAM
  • 16MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, phase detection autofocus, Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus and 1.4 µm pixel size
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB
  • Android Nougat 7.1.1, upgradeable to Oreo 8.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • October 2017 release date
  • 2,699 Chinese Yuan or ~$405 USD for 6GB RAM
  • Nokia 7 is targeted at those who are more comfortable on smaller screen devices but is big on everything else.

With a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen, it is further complemented with IP54 certification, Gorilla Glass 3 protection and a delicate metal body which makes it tough and having the sex appeal as well.

With the Snapdragon 630 chipset, a blazingly fast octa-core processor, good graphics and 6GB RAM at the heart of Nokia 7; you can be sure of a speedy mid-range performance out of it.

Camera-wise, the 16MP Carl Zeiss optics ensures that you can capture great-looking photos with the Nokia 7. To round it off, a decent 5MP selfie camera lets you enjoy taking selfies as well.

But as mentioned earlier, bothie will be the main attraction for its camera. Nokia calls it the "Dual-sight" technology, as it essentially lets users take pictures and videos using front and back cameras simultaneously, capturing "both sides of the story" or "Bothies".

We already have selfies and wefies, why not add bothies to the picture right?

One clear advantage about the Nokia 7, is the fact that it is promised to have an update to the latest Android Oreo 8.0 anytime soon. Now that's something we don't normally see other manufacturers so boldly promise in doing so.

Likewise, Gionee M7 offers something very different but still highly competitive. Just see for yourself the below:

  • 6.01-inch Full HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2160 pixels ~402 ppi pixel density
  • Fullview 18:9 display
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek Helio P30 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.65 GHz Cortex A53) processor, Mali-G71 MP2 graphics and 6GB RAM
  • Dual 16MP+8MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • November 2017 expected release date
  • 2,799 Chinese Yuan or ~$425 USD estimated price tag
  • Starting with a large 6.01-inch Full HD AMOLED screen, it is a peculiar size to begin with. But add the Fullview display that Gionee M7 will be having; and you get more screen space and a huge screen to play around with.

Just ensure that you have the hands to control it, as one-handed operation could be limited. The other issue would be, to find a pants or jeans with a pocket that is deep enough to put it aside when not using.

Gionee M7 also belongs in the mid-range segment with its Helio P30 chipset, a fast octa-core processor, good graphics and a whopping 6GB RAM to boot.

Although there's no bothie feature on the Gionee M7, it more than makes it up with the amazing dual 16MP+8MP primary camera and 8MP selfie camera combination. You will be having a blast with this great camera that it has to offer.

With a larger 4000 mAh battery, it makes for a smartphone that should easily last you for a full day in between charging.

With Android Nougat 7.1 found on the Gionee M7, it is nice. But it remains to be seen whether it will be getting the latest update to Android Oreo 8.0 anytime soon.

    Conclusion:

Nokia 7 have already done well in China with more than 100,000 units snapped up since pre-order started. With a solid 5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen with great all-around protection, elegant metal body, mid-range hardware, great 16MP-5MP Carl Zeiss camera with bothie effect and the promise of an update to the latest Oreo 8.0; makes for an awesome mid-range smartphone.

It is also slightly cheaper in this case.

Nokia 7 had just been released for 2,699 Chinese Yuan or ~$405 USD and comes in Gloss Black and Matte White colours.

Gionee M7 goes on a different path by having a 6.01-inch AMOLED screen with Fullview display, dual 16MP+8MP primary camera and a larger battery.

Gionee M7 is expected to be released in November 2017 for an estimated 2,799 Chinese Yuan or ~$425 USD price tag. There's a lot of colours for you to choose from, namely Sapphire Blue, Star Blue, Maple Red, Champagne Gold and Black.
