Lenovo Phab2 Pro Tango Phone Is Official-Coming In September For $499

Chinese electronics manufacturer Lenovo has become the first to put Google's Project Tango spatial awareness technology into a smartphone. Home improvement company Lowe's developed a Tango-enabled application, called Lowe's Vision.

Both handsets don't come with the Google Tango technology and are more intended for mass consumers looking for a mid-range and affordable Android smartphone.

The Pro uses a fish-eye camera with a wide viewing angle in conjunction with the regular camera sensor to understand motion and identify where the Pro is within a 3D space.

Lenovo has launched the PHAB2 Pro -the world's first Tango-enabled smartphone to enable augmented reality experiences -plus the dual camera PHAb2 Plus and full-sized PHAB2 smartphones. The device will sport 16MP fast-focusing depth-sensing primary camera with a motion-tracking sensor and an 8MP selfie camera. Of course, augmented reality games would be really fun too with Project Tango powering the device.

Further, there are reports that these cameras will provide depth perception, motion tracking and area learning.

However, Motorola reaffirmed the RAZR flip-phone would be not be making a comeback in a statement despite a new TV ad heavily featuring the device, adding that "we will transform mobile again on June 9".

The Lenovo Phab 2 Pro will be available through Best Buy in the U.S.in September for $499. Lenovo says that there will be 25 Tango-capable games and utility apps available from the Play Store when the Phab2 Pro is released, according to The Verge.

Alongside the Phab 2 Pro, Google's Johnny Lee also announced that Project Tango will now simply be known by the name Tango. This, according to Lenovo, will allow developers to create richer experiences for users through creating applications that can explore physical space around for the user, have more precise navigation without Global Positioning System, measure the space and opens a digital portal into virtual 3D worlds. A 16 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera are included as well. The device also has three microphones and spatial audio capture to enable Dolby Audio Capture 5.1, allowing customers to capture the moments of their life with 5.1 surround sound.

"From the moment we saw Tango, we knew it could become pervasive, just like Global Positioning System". They'll debut in September for $199 and $299, respectively, which is pretty incredible given what you'll find inside.
