Phone Case Has Built-In Drone For Aerial Selfies

This concept is set to make your mobile phone even more mobile

UK-based think tank Buzz Technology has an interesting prototype for smartphones of the future. Called Drone-in-a-Phone, it's a foldable microdrone that fits the back of any smartphone. To use, just unlatch, fold it out and attach the modular camera before letting it take the air.

The Drone-in-a-Phone is an extension of a project where Buzz Technology envisions a phone with a detachable camera. Unlike Project Ara, these modular cameras will remain tethered to the phone at all times using a thin cord. The tiny camera cube can then be used to capture images from different angles and placed on accessories like a built-in projection to be used as a selfie-stick.

built in selfie stick 1Phones can also have three cameras (macro, superzoom, regular) which can be swapped according to the user's needs. This modularity is how the microdrone aspect wants to function. Imagine if it is possible to mount the cameras to the little flier?

While it's in very early stages of development, Buzz Technology already has big dreams for their personal drones, including 25+ minutes of flying time, a way to tether it to the phone against strong winds, and high resolution cameras.

Oddly enough, Buzz Technology wants the drone to fly free but not so free. The concept pages reveals a cord running from the drone to the phone case. This cord will be wrapped around a built-in reel. The cord will provide the power and also allow efficient transfer of images back to the phone.

To turn the phone into reality, Buzz Technology is eyeing on launching in Kickstarter in September this year. Their concept has been selected by the Gadget Show Live as a finalist in the Lab category.
