We've seen several rumors about the next iPhone generation coming with a dual-lens camera setup. Considering that the LG G5 has already launched with dual cameras and the upcoming Huawei P9 is pretty much confirmed to come with one, these rumors appear more likely to become reality by the day.
Now KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provides some more detail in a research note saying that the dual-cam technology will be exclusive to the large form factor iPhone with 5.5-inch screen. This is bad news for all fans of the 4.7-inch iPhone or the even smaller new 4-inch iPhone SE, but follows in line with Apple's current product strategy to reserve premium features like optical image stabilization for the larger model.
"New iPhone shipments to be capped by similar form factor as iPhone 6s & 6s Plus; top hardware upgrade is dual-camera (5.5-inch model only), though many competing models with dual-camera will launch soon, joining others already on the market; first impressions could underwhelm."
Previous rumors also said that the iPhone 7 generation will come with both single and dual camera options, but it has not been clear if both camera options would be available for both iPhone sizes. Apple dual camera technology has been linked to the acquisition of LinX technology, which specializes in the development of multi-aperture cameras to support 3D depth mapping, improved color accuracy, lower noise levels and higher image resolutions among other benefits.
