Oral-B Toothbrush Not Just Smart, It's 'Genius'

To correct these bad brushing habits, Oral-B has introduced the Genius, an electric toothbrush that works with a smartphone app to track where you brush and let you know if you are brushing in the right areas. For this Oral-B is selling a smartphone mount that attaches to your bathroom mirror. The Genius also taps into the camera of your smartphone, using video recognition to identify the position of your hand relative to your face. Motion sensors inside the brush detect the areas being brushed.

The Position Detection technology paired with Oral-B app 4.1 in the toothbrush tracks brush positions and shows users how to brush all zones in the mouth evenly. The toothbrush itself has Oral-B oscillating-rotating-pulsating tech to help clean teeth better.

There's a representation of your teeth on the screen, split up into different zones. A professional level timer is also integrated that works even if the brush isn't connected to the app. The timer ensures that each quadrant of the mouth is brushed for at least 30 seconds. Oral-B developed the system in response to the fact that 80 percent of people don't dedicate the same amount of time to each tooth when they brush.

"With Oral-B guidance system, up to 93% of aggressive brushers reduced their brushing force and the time spent brushing with excessive force was reduced by up to 88%", the company says in a press release (via SlashGear). "Now our patients can continue what's started in the dental office at home - a professionally guided brushing routine".

How much smarter can toothbrushes get? Before moving to the next segment, the users first need to brush away the blue color in each of the segments.

The smart toothbrush connects via Bluetooth with your iPhone or Android smartphone, and I got to test one at Oral-B's booth in Barcelona.

The device, called the "Genius" toothbrush, pairs with a smartphone app which users must stand in front of while cleaning their teeth.

The Oral-B is available in black and white and can be preordered on Amazon Spain with prices starting at €225 for the 8000 series and at €280 for the 9000 series.
