Nubia Launches NeoAir VR Camera with 360-degree Live Streaming Support for $100

Today, Nubia launched its latest smartphone, Nubia Z17 Mini equipped with the dual-lens camera. Alongside the new smartphone, the company also unveiled the all-new NeoAir VR Camera (CP1001). A couple of months, Honor also launched its first 360-degree camera called Honor VR Camera. Both the Nubia NeoAir VR Camera and Honor VR Camera are actually the rebranded Insta360 Air. Even both the companies are selling their 360-degree cameras for 699 Yuan (approx $100 / Rs. 6,500) in China. Apart from the change in branding, both the Nubia NeoAir and Honor VR Cameras are the same devices.

Unlike the Samsung Gear 360 camera or the LG 360 Cam, the NeoAir VR camera comes with a USB Type-C pin and can be directly connected to any compatible Android smartphones with the USB Type-C port. It comes with dual camera sensors offering f/2.4 aperture. It can capture photos in 3008 x 1504 pixels (3K) resolution and record videos at 2560 x 1280 pixels (2K) resolution. This clip-on camera measures 37.6mm in diameter and weighs just 26.5 grams. The NeoAir can live stream in 360-degree on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.

All the 360-degree content can be transformed into VR mode and can be viewed on the smartphone with a VR headset. Nubia is also offering a silicone rubber case that protects the NeoAir 360-degree camera. The latest Android smartphones with minimum 2GB of RAM & USB OTG support can be connected with the NeoAir VR camera. While the Honor VR camera comes in Blue color, the new Nubia NeoAir VR Camera comes only in Black color. Both the Honor and Nubia are yet to launch their VR cameras in the global markets.

At the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung launched the upgraded Gear 360 camera along with Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. This new Gear 360 comes in a smaller form factor and supports 360-degree video recording in 4K resolution and also supports live streaming. Unlike the Nubia NeoAir or Honor VR cameras, the Gear 360 can be connected with the latest iPhones and Galaxy smartphones. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details and also share your thoughts about the 360-degree cameras in the comments section below.

Alcatel Unveils New Phone With Four Cameras

Details Published on Thursday, 06 April 2017 10:48

Alcatel announced their new Flash phone today and not only does it have dual-cameras, it actually has two of them. Yes, that's right, the new phone will have a dual-camera setup for both its main camera, and its front camera, which means it will have a total of four cameras on the phone itself.

This is in response to Oppo's and LG's recent unveiling of their dual front facing camera in the Oppo F3 and the LG V10.

The rear camera's will both be sporting 13-megapixel sensors with one of the cameras to be in color and the other monochromatic. This is the same setup that the iPhone 7 is using and it's also the same one that Huawei has been using on the P9 and Honor 8. The reasoning behind this is that both cameras will take the same picture at the same time and software will then stitch them together to create an image which is brighter and has more contrast. On the other hand, the dual front facing camera will have one camera at 8 megapixels with the second camera at 5 megapixels. It's unclear if Alcatel will be using the one color, one monochromatic setup on the front lenses as well, but for sure it will lead to better images.

Alcatel's new phone will also be have a 5.5-inch 1080p display and will be using the Mediatek Helio X20, which is, by the way, a deca-core processor. It will also be running on and older version of Android, Android Marshmallow, which came out in 2016.

Although the images will be clear and vivid, one thing about this phone isn't and that is it's availability and pricing as Alcatel has left us in the dark about such details.

Are four cameras too much or is Alcatel just way ahead of the curve with this new design?

The rear cameras are both 13MP, with one for colour and the other for monochrome photos to create better quality photos. The front camera has one 8MP sensor and another 5MP sensor. The rear camera supports RAW data files that spews images in DNG format for better image processing on photo editing software.

On the hardware front, the Alcatel Flash phone is powered by a 10-core Helio X20 processor and sports a 5.5-inch full HD display. With 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, the Flash has a find brushed metal texture body to give it a premium look.

The Flash is the world's first smartphone with dual cameras on the rear and front and has presently been launched in the UAE only. No prices have been revealed as yet.

Surveillance Camera Captures Violent Robbery on Chicago's North Side

The owner of a cell phone store on Chicago's North Side is recovering after a brazen robbery turned violent in an attack caught on video.

Surveillance cameras were rolling when a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt walked into the store in the 7100 block of N. Clark St. just before 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Police aren't sure if the suspect was armed, but that didn't stop him from seriously injuring the store owner, beating him repeatedly and even slamming his head into the counter.

The situation escalated quickly, and the man can be seen battering the owner as the violent confrontation escalated. Eventually the offender jumped over the counter and stole cell phones from a display case before fleeing the store, hitting a customer on the way out.

Jose Julio Lujan was supposed to be working in his father's Rogers Park store Monday morning, but he was running late – so his father took his place.

"I'm overwhelmed definitely. It's been a very long day. It's really sad," Lujan said. His father suffered lacerations to the face and the store was forced to close for the day after the assault.

"To see your father get hit by another man much bigger than him, to see injustice and to feel that it really takes a toll on you," he added.

The family had multiple surveillance cameras in the store that captured the robbery, and they released the video in hopes that someone may recognize the attacker and help police crack the case.

"I hope they catch him—I really do because justice needs to be served," Lujan said.

The family is still taking inventory to determine how much was taken, and they said they suspected the same man was in the store last week, acting suspicious and leaving before buying anything.

No one is in custody in connection with the incident and police continue to investigate.
