Huawei Concept Phone to Go Official Today Under Honor Brand; No Camera, Physical Buttons and Speaker

Recently, we've reported that Huawei is allegedly working on a concept phone to steal some of the spotlight from Xiaomi's Mi Mix. And if rumours are anything to go by, the smartphone will be announced today. Honor had actually shared a teaser on their official Weibo channel yesterday which indicates that the company will be launching a new smartphone today.

The concept phone will reportedly be announced under the Honor brand possibly called the 'Honor M' to avoid conflicts with Huawei's latest flagship, the Mate 9 Pro and Porsche Design Mate 9. However, as of now, it is not certain if the company will be launching a concept phone or the Honor 6S which has been leaked several times recently.

Anyway, given the fact that the teaser shared by Honor has nothing but an 'M' on it, we are presuming that it will likely launch a concept phone. As long as the phone is concerned, if rumours are to be believed true, the smartphone seems to be an absolute stunner.

It is speculated to Huawei's latest super-quick charging technology which will reportedly offer 50% charging in 5 minutes, thanks to a new battery technology called the Graphene-Assisted Li-ion battery. Moreover, it is expected to feature a button-less, bezel-less, and quad-edge screen with a physical camera, fingerprint scanner, and capacitive keys integrated on to the phone's display itself. Additionally, it may not have the no-more-a-standard 3.5mm jack instead, people should make do with the USB Type-C for data transfer and media playback.

Apple touts the iPhone 7 camera in new ‘Romeo and Juliet’ themed commercial

Apple earlier today released a new ad for the iPhone 7 highlighting the device's superior camera technology. Titled "Romeo and Juliet", the ad features two children performing the play of the same name. The ad begins with one of the more famous scenes from the play and is shot in such a way as to seems like a legit Hollywood production.

The big reveal, of course, is that the seemingly professional cinematography was achieved using only an iPhone 7 and is, in fact, nothing more than your run of the mill school play.

The ad is predictably designed to elicit an emotional reaction from viewers, and as a result, we actually see very little of the iPhone 7 in action. Indeed, the iPhone makes only the briefest of cameos when we see Juliet's father using the dual-camera system that's available exclusively on the iPhone 7 Plus.

The ad concludes with the tagline, "Your movies look like movies on iPhone 7."

One of the great things about Apple's advertising efforts lately is that you never know quite what to expect. You might see something moving, inspiring, touching, quirky or even downright hilarious. As we detailed just last week, Apple's batting average with respect to TV commercials has been impressively and unusually high over the past few months. In fact, longtime Apple ad guru Ken Segall recently said that Apple's 'Bulbs' ad for the MacBook Pro is one of the "greatest commercials Apple has ever made."

    Hisense A2 – a Dual-Screen Smartphone With E-ink and AMOLED Screens

The Chinese gadget maker Hisense is about to become the latest company to unsuccessfully launch a dual-screen smartphone.

Phone Radar and Liliputing report that the Hisense A2 has cleared China's regulatory agency, TENAA. The phone features a 5.2" E-ink screen and a 5.5" AMOLED screen.

    hisense-a2

According to the paperwork, the Hisense A2 runs Android 6.0 on a 1.4 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 430 CPU with 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

It has a pair of cameras (16MP with flash and 5MP), fingerprint sensor, microSD card slot, a 3Ah battery, and dual-SIM card slots. In terms of connectivity it has 4G, Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

And then there are the screens. The TENAA paperwork says the smartphone has a 5.5", 1920 x 1080 resolution AMOLED screen on one side and a 5.2", 960 x 540 resolution E-ink screen on the other.

All in all, from what we can see with the specs this won't be a bad phone, but it's worth remembering that we still don't know anything about software support for the E-ink, at detail which has been the Achilles heel of this type of phone. About a half dozen dual-screen smartphones have been announced over the past few years, and so far  none of the phone makers have put forward a good use for the secondary E-ink screen.

In fact, from what users tell me most of the phones don't support their secondary E-ink screens very well at all. And while there's a good chance that Apple could buck that trend should the rumor of their dual-screen iPhone prove true, I don't see Hisense pulling it off.

    Check These Out!

Elephone supersize with the dual camera Elephone Max

The jury is still out on if bigger is better, but bigger is usually more popular hence Elephant's decision to build a larger phone.

At 6-inches, the Elephone Max will be the companies largest smartphone produced to date and follows the trend of larger displays which we've seen even Apple follow with larger iPhone models.

The 6-inch Elephone Max promises to offer a decent screen to body ratio, i.e a narrow border design (perhaps similar to new phones from Xiaomi and Huawei) and will boasts dual rear cameras which are rumoured to record video at up to 4K.

An ultra-slim metal body will contain the rest of the hardware, RAM and processor which will run an Android 7.0 operating system.

The final details we know so far are that the Elephone Max won't be too expensive as the company says they plan to make it as cost effective as possible with an attractive price.

News of the Elephone Max joins news of the Elephone H1, Elephone ELE Box 2 and a couple more new Elephone handsets due to launch in the coming months.

Windows Phone users give Microsoft CEO an earful

Another shareholder, who says he uses his Windows Phone "18 hours a day", said he has heard Microsoft is "stepping away from mobile".

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella listens to a shareholder question. Already he was cross that Vole had put the Band on the back burner.

Speaking at Microsoft's annual shareholders meeting, Nadella pointed out highlights of Microsoft's 2016 - including the launch of well-received Surface devices - and said that the Azure platform has "grown triple digits" for the last seven consecutive quarters.

"When we control things silicon-up, that's how we will integrate those experiences". The company will "build devices that are unique and differentiated with our software capability on top of it - whether it's Surface or Surface Studio or HoloLens or the phone - and also make our software applications available on Android and iOS and other platforms". Nadella responded by saying Microsoft's Windows camera and mail apps will include the same features as in Microsoft's apps for other platforms. That said, we're not stepping away or back from our focus on our mobile devices. He asked, "Can you calm me down ... and tell me what your vision is for mobile?"

"But at the core of our cloud momentum is growth in Azure as the true hybrid cloud platform because we don't think of our services as legacy, in fact we think of them as the edge of our cloud, whether it's Windows Server or to our SQL Server. That's what I think is needed for Microsoft to help you as a user get the most out of our innovation". "In other words, we think about the mobility of the human being across all of the devices, not just the mobility of a single device".

"What we are going to do is focus that effort on places where we have differentiation", he said. The point of differentiation for the company's Windows Phone would be its manageability, security and Continuum capability, which together would allow the smartphone to act as a personal computer. While on the one hand the concept of "the phone as the PC" continues to inspire people-and may be an area that Microsoft can offer considerable value-it doesn't do much for Redmond's platform right now, and it has little obvious appeal to the all-important consumer market. Hence, Microsoft wants to double-down on these points of differentiation regarding its upcoming smartphone devices.

Nadella cited the HP Elite x3 phone, which is quite powerful and well-reviewed, as an example of a Windows 10 phone that follows this strategy. We will keep looking at different forms, different functions that we can bring to mobile devices, while also supporting our software across a variety of devices.

"If you look at it, we are not building one cloud service". We are not stepping away from supporting our Windows Phone users.
