Cubot’s Rainbow 2 May Be The Cheapest Dual-camera Phone Ever

2017 is shaping up to become the year of the dual-camera. Aside from high-end devices like the Mate 9 and the Zenfone Zoom, the dual-camera craze has now spread to the mid-range market via the GR5 2017. But aside from Starmobile's aging Spectra, there hasn't really been an affordable dual-camera phone to hit the market – not one that actually had dual cameras anyway.

That may be changing thanks to relatively minor Chinese player Cubot. Information about the company's new Rainbow 2 smartphone has managed to reach us, and the phone looks promising. Front what we gather the device has a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel rear cameras, set side-by-side much like the iPhone 7 Plus.

And just like most dual-camera smartphones, the secondary rear camera allows the Cubot 2 to apply software depth-of-field onto subjects it takes photos of. Other specs include a 5-inch HD display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal, expandable storage, 5-megapixel front camera with selfie flash and Android Nougat. No chipset has been specified as of yet.

Best part is that the phone is expected to retail at around $60, or around 3K. Obviously the phone will never reach the PH, but Cubot has been known to provide smartphones to other brands to use before. There's a high chance that other local brands may pick it up to be sold locally.
